How POSB Personal Loan Applications Work in Singapore
A POSB Personal Loan application involves more than entering a requested amount. The application route, account requirements, supporting documents, repayment choices and personalised pricing can differ by applicant profile.
Where the application takes place
POSB Personal Loan applications are handled through the DBS/POSB unsecured-loan platform. Although the product is identified as POSB Personal Loan, the digital application process uses DBS digibank and may refer to DBS/POSB Cashline, Credit Card and deposit accounts.
The main route is digibank mobile. After signing in with Touch ID, Face ID or a digibank User ID and PIN, the applicant selects Apply, chooses Personal Loans, taps Apply now, enters the requested amount, selects a repayment plan and taps Next. The applicant then chooses the eligible DBS/POSB account for crediting, and selects the relevant credit card if the application is made against a card. The details are reviewed before Submit is selected.
Using digibank Online
The same process is available through digibank Online. After signing in with a User ID and PIN and completing authentication, the applicant selects Apply from the left-hand menu, chooses Borrow and then Personal Loans. After selecting Apply now, the applicant reads the application information, clicks Start, chooses Cashline, a DBS/POSB Credit Card, or both, and enters the loan amount and preferred repayment plan.
The final steps involve selecting the crediting account, checking the application information and submitting it. A confirmation screen in the mobile process indicates that the application has been submitted successfully. Submission does not by itself mean that the requested amount, rate or application has been accepted.
Loan limits and existing customer requirements
The minimum application amount is S$500. DBS states that applicants can generally borrow up to 95% of the available credit limit, subject to the bank’s assessment and the remaining limit on the relevant facility. Multiple Personal Loans may be possible when sufficient available credit remains.
Existing DBS/POSB customers with Cashline and/or a DBS/POSB Credit Card can apply using an existing available credit facility. DBS states that these applicants do not need to submit income documents for the Personal Loan application. Relevant age, account and credit-limit conditions still apply.
Eligibility for new applicants
Applicants without an existing DBS/POSB Cashline or DBS/POSB Credit Card may also apply. In this situation, the Personal Loan comes with a Cashline account. Published criteria state that Singapore Citizens, Singapore Permanent Residents and foreigners must be between 21 and 70 years old.
The minimum annual income is S$20,000 for Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents, and S$60,000 for foreigners. Foreign applicants must hold the required valid identity and work documents. A DBS/POSB deposit account is required for disbursement because the approved amount is not credited to an account held with another bank.
Documents that may be requested
A new salaried Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident generally provides the front and back of the NRIC and the latest three months of computerised payslips. Where employment has lasted at least three months, recent Singapore-dollar bank statements showing salary crediting may also be used. Where employment has lasted less than three months, the latest computerised payslip or a signed letter of appointment with a staff-pass copy may be submitted. The latest one-year Income Tax Notice of Assessment can be an additional document.
Variable commission-based employees and self-employed Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents generally provide the latest two years of Income Tax Notices of Assessment, although at least one year may be accepted, together with both sides of the NRIC.
Foreign salaried applicants generally provide a passport and work pass with at least six months of validity, plus the latest three months of computerised payslips or Singapore-dollar bank statements showing salary crediting. Applicants employed for less than three months may provide the latest payslip or a company letter certifying employment and salary in Singapore dollars, dated within three months of application. New DBS/POSB customers may also need residential-address proof dated within three months.
Foreign variable commission-based or self-employed applicants may need a passport, work pass, the latest two years of Income Tax Notices of Assessment, or at least one year where applicable, along with recent residential-address proof when new to DBS/POSB. Requirements can vary, and additional documents may be requested.
Rates, fees and repayment choices
Published Personal Loan pricing includes personalised interest rates from 1.48% per annum plus a 1% processing fee, with an advertised effective interest rate of 3.22% per annum. These figures are not the same as a guaranteed offer for every applicant. The rate shown during the application may vary according to personal credit and income information and the bank’s assessment.
An early-termination fee of S$250 applies for each Personal Loan. Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents can generally select six-, 12-, 24-, 36-, 48- or 60-month repayment tenures. When the loan amount is S$3,000 or less, the maximum available tenure is 24 months. Foreign applicants can select six-, 12- or 24-month tenures regardless of the loan amount.
Repayment uses fixed monthly instalments. Interest allocation follows the Rule of 78, also called the sum-of-digits method, so a larger portion of the interest component is allocated to earlier instalments. Reviewing the personalised rate, effective interest rate, monthly instalment and applicable fees can help with affordability decisions.
Approval, disbursement and current promotion
After approval, DBS states that an SMS and an approval letter are sent to the mailing address registered with the bank. Funds are credited to the designated eligible DBS/POSB deposit account. For loans approved after 11:45 p.m. daily, or after 9:00 p.m. at month-end, crediting takes place the following day. If that day is a Sunday or public holiday, crediting moves to the next applicable day.
As of August 13, 2026, DBS advertises a promotion running until October 31, 2026. An approved loan amount of at least S$10,000 with a tenure of at least 36 months may qualify for 3% unlimited cashback when promo code DBSPL is entered in the application. Terms and conditions apply, and promotional details, rates and fees may change.
Conclusion: Review the Application Carefully
The POSB Personal Loan process is shaped by the chosen digibank route, existing DBS/POSB facilities, available credit limit, applicant profile and supporting documents. Before submitting, the applicant should verify the crediting account, repayment tenure, personalised pricing, fees, disbursement conditions and any promotion terms so the borrowing decision is informed and manageable.Sources:
